Housing on post is a rip off... yes they charge for everything including normal wear and tear... and dont think about painting you kids rooms because if u get paint on the outlet cover you pay well over what itscworth. If you use ur garage watch out because they charge if you leave an oil stain. We forgot a couple piles of dog poo in the yard that cost us 150.00 when i asked if i could go clean it she told me know i should have already done it. I asked her why it cost so much and she told me because no obe likes dog mess. Its not like we tracked it all over the house... we cleaned that place from top to bottom. They go thru with black lights looking for stains on the carpet and charge u to shampoo even if you already did it. And take my advice if u live on post take down ur blinds or gaurd them with your life because they are cheep and fall apart if u look at them to hard. we were charged over 900 for "repairs" and over 400.00  for the 9 days we stayed there in the month... DONT BOTHER TRYING TO GET ON POST HOUSING ITS A WASTE OF MONEY AND TRASHY... ALSO EVEN THO THEY TELL YOU THEY PROVIDE PAINT TO PAINT IT BACK..YOU HAVE TO PULL TEETH TO GET IT. RUN FOR YOUR LIFE SAVINGS BECAUSE THEY SURE WILL TAKE IT..

I prefer onpost housing since my husband & I were SEVERELY ripped off! I will give you the information so you DO NO RENT this apartment. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s 105 Church Street. Theresa, NY.
The landlord?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s name is Greg.

We not only paid $650 for rent, around $50 for electric & around $700 for oil heating per month (in the winter months which is 75% of the year)
& we kept out heat on 62*!!!!!!!
Not only is that terrible, BUT since it is estimated 20 miles from the Drum gate,
my husband would leave an HOUR ahead of time & we spend around $100 in gas a week in just my husband driving to Drum & back. There is one bar & gas station located in the town & absolutely nothing else.
Word of advice, Theresa is not a good town to rent in! Avoid at all costs.
At least onpost pays heating even if you keep your house on 90* all year round.

Housing on installation?
I am not sure about the on base housing most of it looks really nice but because this is such a small base the wait list is very long.
Housing off installation?
Off installations housing isn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t to bad we live in a two bedroom town house it is 980 a month with no pet deposit. This way the only one that we could afford due to the huge amount of money wanted for pet deposits.

Housing on installation?
Housing here is nice. There are 4 neighborhoods here on post all with either new housing or remodeled housing. I currently live in a 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath. Maintenance is always just a phone call away and I have never had any issues with them or my house. Waiting lists are too bad either. We only waited (in off post housing) for 4 months for on post housing. The staff has always been very nice and helpful.

Housing off installation?
When I first got to Drum they had several off post housing options. Now those have been privatized. To live off post you would have to find your own place. There are several small towns near post that are very nice, perfect for a family with kids. Prices are normal for this area but with me being from the South it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a little high. If I were to move off post I would look for housing in Carthage, NY, Black River, NY or Evans Mills, NY. These are all very close to post and small enough to have that home-y feel.

In the four years we have lived, I do have one child that managed to attend every local school district. Our personal favorite was Calcium Primary in the Indian River School District. They worked very well with the military students and understood the changes that a child could go through when a parent is deployed. The staff was amazing and the curriculum was outstanding!

Housing on installation?

We do live in housing on post. Our house is consider ?¢‚Ǩ?ìold housing?¢‚Ǩ¬ù as newer housing is being built. The house is nice, the layout works well for us and we have a descent sized back yard. It is privatized housing so there are its ups and its downs. Personally we are happy!

Housing off installation?
We did live off post for roughly 18 months. Living off post is not a firts choice for us. Personally it was hard as our neighborhood did not understand what we went through, especially during deployments. We also found that civilians assumed that as military that we are rich and can afford higher rent. Was hard to find something that suit our needs.
