Nichole T. asks: I would like to know if Schofield Barracks or Fort Shafter would be the better post or if they are pretty much the same?

Alysha S. says: Schofield is better I think plus it depends on what your husbands mos is and which post he's assigned to.

Allison C. says: I grew up in Hawaii right next to schofield...Definatly go with schofield!

Jessica M. says: Schofield has more housing and more things to do. Shafter doesn't have as much to do and is smaller but it right down by Honolulu & Waikiki. I lived on Schofield for 2 yrs and then moved down near Shafter in June. I prefer it down here and would never go to Schofield if it wasn't for friends and volunteer duties that I started before the move. Plus down near Shafter you have JB Hickham-Pearl Harbor and and all their posts have to offer (which is a lot) and you also have the NEX & Navy Commissary which everyone here LLOOVVEESS! Also if you are Army you don't have to necessarily stay in Army housing. I moved from Army housing to Navy housing and know many others who have stayed in other military housing instead of Army. Just know that sometimes you won't get the "prime" house with Navy that you would if you went to Schofield or possibly Shafter. If you wanna stay Army housing look at AMR housing as it is near Shafter but "off post" and still down in the middle of everything!

Melanie B. says: Definately depends on where your spouse will be working. But Schofield is much nicer more country setting as opposed Shafter is right about downtown Honolulu. LOTS of congestion and traffic.. Housing on Schofield is nicer I believe...

Leah K. says: Shafter is closer to Honolulu but a lot of people who are suppose to go to Shafter end up at Schofield...they are not far apart at all

Blanca R. says: We loved living by shafter!! 10 min drive to waikiki The big NEX was minutes away & ur pretty much right in the middle of the island. :)

Candice Y. says: The houses on Shafter/AMR are brand new and very nice. Like others have stated it really depends on where he will be working. We live down by Shafter and my husband works on Wheeler so he goes against traffic so its not an issue. I would not want to try to come from Schofield to anywhere south in the mornings or back up in the evenings. The traffic here is pretty rough.

Nichole T. says: Thanks everyone :)

Duena P. says: Schofield is better my house is for rent 15 min from schofield If you have children you want to pay attention to the schools.

Nichole T. says: We have decided on Schofield Barrakcs. My husband went today to see if we can PCS there! It could be awhile though so I doubt your house will still be for rent then.

Anissa M. asks: I'm looking for information for PCS'ing to Hawaii.  I have heard different things about how army does things now. Does anyone know if they still only ship one vehicle or is it two now?  I heard they changed it to two but thought that to be a rumor.  Also can I get information on pets.  We have dogs and not sure if we can take both.  Thanks.

Misti C. says:  They only ship one vehicle unfortunately.  This website may help.  http://www.25idl.army.mil/aloha.html

Sarah J. says:  They only ship 1 vehicle.  Check out the website:  www.move.mil for shipping information.  For information regarding your dogs contact your local vet at your local installation as they can give you requirements for where you are moving to.  We went PCS'ing to Italy and they gave us a check list to go by.

Tiffany L says:  Aniissa the best checklist for the pets is put out by the state of Hawaii.  Just google: "animal quarantine Hawaii" and you'll find what you need.  They have to have proof that they've been rabies-free for at least 4 months.  If you have time before PCS I recommend doing the airport release plan where you get all the shots and blood tests before you arrive and can take them home with you in the same day.  If that's not a possibility you can leave them behind with a friend to be shipped once they have completed the 4 month period or have them stay in quarantine here on the island.  For most pet owners I know that's the least preferred option.

Teresa S. says;  We shipped a 2nd car from Hawaii using the space A program through the Navy.  We are NOT Navy.....so the only thing I can tell you is that it was a Navy base in San Diego.  Try calling outdoor rec.  They stored my car so they should know who to contact for the Space A Program.

Jessica M says:  As everyone mentioned it is only one car that they ship.  Also make sure you realize you will be without your car for like 2 months maybe longer depending on what port you are leaving out of!  From what I heard  they are very particular about shipping cars from the mainland to the island.  The car has to be in full working order and has to be very clean.

US Army Garrison-Hawaii says:  Anissa There is information about both pets and vehicles at www.garrison.hawaii.army.mil/newcomers.htm

02/2011 ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú Schofield barracks in Wahiawa, Hawaii in the United Sates. Active Army base.

I love Schofield, the base is very clean and pretty. It does get lonely, because you can not drive home to your family like you could if you were back on the mainland. The base isn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t as big as I thought it would be.

Krystel of Armywife101 lives in Hawaii ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú She answers questions about moving to Hawaii:

I know what your thinking here she goes complaining about Hawaii, but I promise this video is nothing like that . Apparently based on the number of FB Fanpage questions and emails I have received, quite a few people are PCS?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ing to Hawaii. In this video I address some of the FAQ?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s about PCS?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ing here. Oh by the way I promise I cuter then this in real life but my daughter decided to film from an unsightly angle:
