There are a lot of parks in the area

Two MOPS groups…one at Stithton Baptist and one at First Christian Church in Elizabethtown (they both have facebook pages)

Obviously the CYSS and other Army-sponsored childcare programs

Blazers Fun Zone is local…kind off like Chucky Cheese

In Louisville there is a lot to do…zoo, park, museum

Pools, both on and off post

There are not too many things for young children in the area. I started my own playgroup for toddlers so we do arts and crafts, cooking, playing, playgrounds, field trips and anything else we can think of. The playgroup is here while I am and I will try to pass it to some one when I leave.

There seem to be plenty of people willing to babysit around post. A lot of stir crazy moms looking to either trade off or get paid a little on the side while watching children, you just have to look a little for them.

CYS also offers a bunch of activities for children, mostly 5+ but there is also a toddler gymnastics class and toddler dance class. I know when the kids are a little older there is devers middle school center for after school activities, art clubs, soccer teams, gymnastics, swimming, ect

There is an amazing playgroup for infants, toddlers and preschoolers, or at least I think it is amazing because I run most of the playdates, but we meet a couple times a week and have the children do different things like paint, color, cook, play with playdough, make music, go outside and play, have water play ect, ect, ect. It works on building the skills that daycare teachers are required to help build without actually ever having to send them to daycare. I try to theme most months with a color and topic (holidays make it easy, but we do animals, antartica, carnival, ect). The playdates are still laid back, the children are invited to participate in the activity, but if they are more interested in playing with eachother they can continue to do that instead, we go with the flow. There are a couple other playgroups I have seen, but most are for either older children or seem not to meet, not to say there are no others out there, but we welcome new members and most of all it is completely FREE! I do this to benefit my own children and to make new friends.

There isn’t much for kids on the base until they are older. I have my toddler in a gymnastics class through cys but plan to take him out when the month is done because the class is too small and the same every week, which is boring for me and him. We ended up starting our own playgroup because of a lack of things to do with small children on base and that seems better for the kids under preschool age. We are still looking around base for more to do with toddlers. So far, it is just dance or gymnastics.
